Innovations in Disc Repair and Recovery Solutions
Many of the advances in spine surgery over the years have focused on reducing pain after a spinal injury. However, more advanced surgical practices are also allowing patients to maintain their range of motion. One example is replacing the traditional spinal fusion surgery with artificial disc replacement (ADR). Instead of fusing vertebrae to prevent bones from rubbing against each other, ADR replaces painful damaged discs with new ones that allow you to bend and twist without experiencing pain or movement restrictions. These changes to spinal surgery are paving the way for a future of spine health where people can live life without the limits of herniated or degenerative discs.
JWA – Charlotte, NC Real Estate Development patch that’s activated by a person’s natural movement could be the key to fixing herniated discs, researchers at Penn Medicine and CMCVAMC say. The “tension-activated repair patches”—which resemble microcapsules filled with anti-inflammatory drugs—stimulate the release of chemicals that help discs build tension and cushion their vertebrae, researchers explain in a study published this week in Science Translational Medicine.

The researchers hope to eventually use these patches to treat herniated or damaged human discs in a clinical trial. In the meantime, they’re already collaborating with start-up company Mechano Therapeutics to commercialize their research. Several consumer products—including Microsoft’s built-in CHKDSK command, R-Studio, and Ontrack EasyRecovery—can recover deleted disk partitions from a hard drive. But Burgess says consumers should never try any do-it-yourself software that can cause physical damage to a hard drive, including clicking or chirping sounds, which indicate a serious problem that cannot be fixed with software alone.
